Front Bumper a little lopsided. And other issues !
Jus picked up a 2001 4Runner with 85,000 original miles on it the other day . There are a few things that need to be addressed but overall the car is in excellent condition for the year.
1) the front bumper is a bit lopsided when you look hard . I was hoping that I could loosen up the bumper and alight it and re tighten it all up , has anyone else experienced this ?
2)- passenger front window sometimes rolls down then doesn’t go back up , or goes all the way back up and then automatically comes halfway down and gets stuck like that. Or just gets stuck completely down, or doesn’t go down at all . . I’m sure I can find thread for that on here somewhere U can see the bumper has a bigger gap on the passenger side when compared to the driver side
3) driver side window auto down works but not auto up. Not a big deal but jus one of those things that annoys me .
4) sunroof doesn’t open but Motor making clicking sound. Gonna have to take that apart to figure it out.
5) headliner gets a little wet above the passenger side window and goes around by the windshield passenger side . Hopefully it’s just clogged drains .
6) no air /heat blows out of the passenger side vent !
7) when I turn on the fan for ac or heat there’s a low constant ticking sound coming from the glovebox area.
8) and lastly . And possibly the most important , I don’t know if 4WD is activated or not because the indicator light on dash does not light up ( I don’t think it lights up when the key is in the on position either when the engine is not started) I have to double check though .
I know this is a lot to ask especially for a new member but I any insight would be much appreciated if anyone has run into these problems!
I know there’s some threads out there addressing some of this stuff but a lot that I have read don’t really have solutions listed all the time .
You can see bigger gap on the passenger side when compared to the driver side
The bumper looks like it took a hit on the driverside pushing it up, if the factory mounting won't allow you to straighten it you will need to remove it and ream out the holes to allow for more adjustment.
The power windows have a limit/pressure switch and need to be calibrated especially if replaced, could also be an out of position window gasket. Go to the FSM in the sticky there is more testing you can do. http://www.teamtoyota4x4.org/archivi...pwcsy/adju.pdf
If your digital climate control functions and responds perfectly, then it is most likely the blend door actuator not working correctly. The climate control can mess up but sounds like something else if the display and buttons are functioning. Could also be ducting misplaced.
4WD lights not working could be a number of things, you would be best to start a new thread telling us what it's doing and not doing, check to see if the front driveshaft is engaging, is it engaging at the tcase or front diff or both, is the light flashing, do you hear it trying to engage in 4WD, is the front diff engaging, centre diff lock 4HL engaging, 4L?, tcase and front diff actuator and position switches look ok, all connections ok?. The 4WD indicator lights only light up solid if engaged and all signals are activated telling the system you're in 4WD by satisfying all position sensors on the front diff and tcase. It should flash if there is a problem, no flash indicates display isn't functioning.
Unlikely but Thats some low milage on a 21 year old rig, have you gotten a history report for this vehicle, maybe the cluster was swapped and they bodged the connection for the 4WD indicator lights, again unlikely, but possible.
the headliner is solid so it will only leak at the edges depending on vehicle position, it could be any of the drain tubes disconnected from the sun roof tray, mine was the driver side rear drain tube, get a funnel and direct water to each corner looking for water to pour out the rocker for front drains (hopefully the rocker drains aren't plugged) and rear bumper corners for rear drains, they could be clogged aswell. Or water is getting around the sunroof mounting flange.
sunroof motor could be damaged from water or more likely the sunroof cables are seized up.

Thank you for the detailed response! I’m gonna have to do my research and figure out how go and take this car apart and put it back together no problem. I’ always worry I’ll screw somthing up worse than it was before especially when it comes to electrical components .

and also I was a little skeptical with the mileage for the year also. But I ran the history reports and everything checked out completely normal. Not sure how why some lights on the dash aren’t lighting up
