The FAQ being asked again - 1988 Toyota Pickup

I realize this is the classic noob question, but:

Where do I find a wiring diagram?

I'm attempting to fix the running lights on my son's 1988 Toyota Dolphin RV. The backup lights are also MIA. I suspect a relay somewhere but need a wiring diagram to find it.

Please don't say emanualsonline - they've got my money but I still don't have a wiring diagram.

Thanks!

Luke

Lynden, WA

Learning the value of the word NO (to be used as response to questions like "Can I leave my RV here while I go to Mexico?" and "Will you help me sell my RV?")

you can get a factory Toyota Electrical Wiring Diagrams manual often times on eBay. You can try and get one for your specific year, but a 1987 should work, too.
Often times they go for $100.00or more, but if you're patient you can find a seller blowing one out. I got mine for $21.00

Did Dolphin use the Toyota tail light assemblies, or did they swap in their own? I'm wondering if you just have bad grounds.

A quick search on the '88 Dolphin leads me to believe that they used aftermarket flush mount tail light assemblies, The one that comes up most often is this one:

I agree with Jimkola, you probably have one or more bad grounds to the lights. Considering that these types of lights on the RV versions of the pickup usually have a separate ground wire, instead of grounding through the body (like on regular pickups), it could easily be the case.

Ive opened mine up on a 79 dolph recently and the wiring is pretty similar to the pickups, but IIRC correctly, theres a couple other things spliced in. I dont remember ground locations but if you pull the housing, you should be able to see how the wires are routed. Mine has a little cabinet thing at ground level I can peek in and see wires.
check out the toyota motorhome forum as well.

Here, 1988 4Runner/Truck. Should be same. Check if wire colors are the same. And do checks I noted.

Closer look...
