My 1UZ 87 4Runner swap info

Full build here, gave up on the 4.3 in post 119, and 1UZ tech comes soon after. https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f199...thread-224025/

But I thought I'd post some of the information I've come up with, as it's sort of scattered.

First off, if you want to know more about the 1UZ, get a beer, and start in on Kelvin's youtube channel. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCSn...jOh1eUIRUusqiA

www.partsouq.com for complete, VIN specific OEM diagrams.
www.lexuspartsnow.com and www.toyotapartsdeal.com are great sources to order parts, or just check part numbers (I do not have a local Lexus dealer, so it's nice to check if it's a valid Toyota number. Also, these sites will say that a part is discontinued, most dealer sites will tell you that anything is available just to get your information).

There are many sets of diagrams and manuals floating around the internet, and most are not very well labeled, or incomplete. for $20 you can get a 3 day pass to https://techinfo.toyota.com/ and download complete, accurate Service Manuals right from Toyota (back to 1990). For my 4Runner, I bought a paper copy of the Service Manual and Electrical Wiring Diagrams on eBay.

I ended up with a '94 SC400 engine/transmission, and '98 T100 AT transfer case.

USDM engines/transmissions have a plate on the RH side with the VIN, extremely helpful for ordering parts

Look for Kelvin's videos on deleting vacuum and coolant lines. I deleted EGR, and all the coolant lines to the throttle valve, IAC, and EGR. I also followed his instruction to delete the traction control parts from the throttle body.

I stripped down the wiring to just engine controls, and test ran it on the stand:

These ECUs are notorious for leaking Capacitors. I replaced them per this guide. https://www.clublexus.com/forums/ls-...pacitor-3.html

I have zero interest in a manual transmission in this truck. There are options for it, but I haven't done any research.

With a few parts from a 1UZ A340 auto (bellhousing, torque converter, and pump, I think) you can run an A340 from another vehicle (like your original truck or 4runner). The transmission is controlled by the engine computer, and there are variations in speed sensors and valve bodies, so you'll have to have both ECUs there, and give them both enough information to run correctly. Doesn't seem like that great of an option, and since I didn't have an A340 any more, wasn't a great option for me.

In the US, the newer T100s are the bridge between the new gen engine/transmission and the RH front diff from the old gen. So a 3.4l/AT T100 transfer case and adapter can be bolted to the Lexus A340E to make it 4WD fairly easily.

Down under, there's a Hilux Surf application that can similarly be adapted. Kelvin did a video on it.

The Lexus runs the shift linkage down the RH side of the transmission. I grabbed a floor shifter and linkage from a '98 4Runner at the yard, which runs down the LH side. Since I had planned to pull the valve body for a shift kit, it was a simple job to swap the shift shaft in the transmission to convert it.

Then it came time to stuff it in the engine bay.

I bought some generic "LS Swap" engine mounts on Ebay, and with a little modification, bolted them to the 1UZ

(That's also the stock SC400 manifold with the flange cut off)

Never mind my ugly flux-core welds, I fabbed the tabs from that kit to a plate cut out to sit on the 22RE mounting pads.

Old power steering pump was a leaker, so I grabbed one for an LS400. This has the reservoir right on top of it (one less thing to locate), and the idle-up valve threads into the body of the pump, instead of the high pressure line on the SC400. Then I grabbed a 91680 power steering line from AutoZone for a 3VZ truck. Should work nicely with a mount of some sort under the radiator.

I bought a single-pass cooler on ebay that I will use to get the return line from one side of the truck to the other (and cool the fluid).

SC400 has a hydraulic radiator fan, definitely not room for this in the truck. Gutted the pump, and then a shorter belt can be used to bypass it and A/C

The 4Runner I got the shifters from was a top shift transfer case, where the T100 was forward shift. The 1UZ pushes the drivetrain back a few inches, so forward shift is perfect. I gutted both transfer case shifters to use the 4runner lever in the T100 housing.

Then the linkage had to be shortened a few inches. Hole in the tunnel opened up and Rivnuts installed to bolt down the shifter assembly.

With this sweet trim from a Tacoma, it's going to be a nice setup:

Front output on the T100 case is a different bolt pattern. But since it's mounted a bit further back, a pentadapter was the perfect solution.

Here's a video showing many different views how it fits in the truck, talking about oil pan options, and more:

I've spent about $3k so far, with probably another $800 to go. This has largely been on service parts, and optional modifications.

I thought I'd publicize my spreadsheet. This has been my scratchpad for this build, so it's sort of a stream of consciousness, but I tried to keep it somewhat organized.

But there are part numbers (OEM and aftermarket), sources, prices, links, notes, dimensions, etc. The "Parts" tab has a running total of what I've spent (and have left to spend), for those curious what this endeavor will cost and why (keep in mind, my $500 initial purchase price of the engine/transmission/wiring/ECU isn't included).

the "Gaskets" and "Fuse box" tabs totals are inserted into the "Parts" list for that running total.

The "OEM Parts" tab is redundant from the other lists, so I can print it out, highlight what I need, and bring it to my local dealer (they use matrix pricing, but the guy that usually helps me usually gives me list price when he sees that I've already looked it up).
