Shop in sacramento for head gasket

Hello yall,

This is for Sacramento CA residents, I am owner of 1989 toyota pickup. I know it's very common for 3.0 engine to blown head gasket. As right now I am still college student and I am not going to swap any engine since my engine is very good beside head gasket blown. I tried to find right shop and with a good price to replace the head gasket. Do you know any good shop to replace head gasket for my truck in Sacramento. I have been calling several shop but it's coming with various price, some cost me $700, other is almost 2,500 and other 3,600 so obviously I am not sure which it's make sense price to repair the head gasket.

your help is greatly appreciated

How much do you want to spend?
cheap mechanics can do good work but theres no gauruntee. Same could be said for expensive mechanics.
Id bet you could get it done at the dealership for under 1.5k if its just gasket failure. And theyd use oem parts and have a more reliability warranty than the guy down the street.
in my area, theres toyota specific shops that know their stuff, previous dealership techs who moved out on their own. Good but expensive. And theres just some regular fix everything shops that are cheaper and good too.
At the end of the day, any price quote you get will be for just gasket replacement. If the motor needs work on top of that, the shop has no way of knowing until they dig in. You might get a call saying theres extra work you need to pay for. So youre quote is just for starters.
paying for car work always hurts but find a shop that seems trustworthy. These guys dont make a ton of money so they look to do a job quick and move on to the next one. If the person you talk to seems like they dont care, the people who do the work at his shop wont care. If they treat you right and talk you through what theyre gonna do, their techs will probably take the time to do good work.
theres no golden rule on shops, in my book, except how they treat their customers. To me that is the #1 indicator of what kind of business they run.
off my soapbox now.
