Orientation of clutch disc for 3VZ?

All,
I've searched and so far haven't found a definitive answer as to which direction the spring side of the clutch disc should face? The failed clutch disc I removed was stamped on the non-spring side to face the flywheel, so the spring side is facing the transmission. I came across a tech note on Yotashop.com (https://www.yotashop.com/blog/clutch...on-guidelines/) that notes for the 5VZ the spring side should face the flywheel. I'm making an assumption that it would be the same for the 3VZ, but I'm not sure.

The new AISIN clutch kit I purchased did not come with any instructions and the disc is not stamped to indicate which side should face the flywheel. Any is greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
d.

I ran another search using google and came across this thread, https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f16/...-3-slow-56431/ which supports the old clutch disc orientation. I'll go with this unless someone can point me to something different. For reference, I'm attaching pics of my new disc along with pages from an FSM I found on Marlin Crawler which seems to show the spring-side facing the trans although it doesn't state it.

Thanks.

probably go with how the old one was oriented.

my 88 VZN FSM shows that as the correct orientation:
Page CL-4 Installation of Clutch Unit
diagram clearly shows raised portion facing transmission, flatter side towards flywheel.

Their post doesn't mention the 3VZ-E.......

I thought that was weird as well, however I believe all they do are 5VZ swaps so it may be why...

Thanks!

I've always thought the general rule was flat side was up against the flywheel, the thicker side towards the transmission. Though I wouldn't be surprised to find exceptions to a perceived rule.

It sure looks like on the 5vz does go fat side to flywheel. Good thing others researched.
