What Year is My Drivetrain?

I've got a 1931 Model A with the drivetrain out of a 1985 or 86 Toyota pickup, 22R with a Weber carb, Thorley header, 5 speed manual and pickup rear end. I don't know who modified the car or the history of the pickup the parts came from. I've done a lot of work getting the engine to run smooth, but it's tired and will need a rebuild or short block one day soon. How can I determine what year this engine is? I know it's mid 80's but I want to make sure I get the right parts on the first try. I uploaded a couple of pictures of the car to my gallery and will get some better shots of the engine later today.

That is a pretty interesting car!

I think you are probably right about the year of truck the drivetrain came out of. That engine looks like the "late" style 22R / 22R-E engine, which ran from 1985 to 1995.

The good news here is that the "late" 22R / 22R-E engines are the same internally (carbureted or fuel injected) throughout that year range (1985-1995) and parts are available.

Here is some more information on identifying the engine from LC Engineering: http://www.lcengineering.com/LCNewsl...head_Tech.html

The transmission is likely a Toyota W55, but I am not entirely sure.

85 and 86 used the same engine and transmission. To be sure of 85 and up engine, you need a picture of the drivers side of the block. there would be a "UFO" shape that could be used as a turbo oil return. it will not be drilled or tapped, just the blank shape. If this is not there it is a 1981-84 engine, other differences can't really be notice externally on those engines because of timing chain and timing cover differences. 85-95 engines are 100% same long block to long block. and would do no good knowing the specific year other than for some kind of documentation.
