The ac and heater fan- it doesn’t move any air and when I turn the fan up with the dial it starts making a thumping or clunking noise inside the dash, still no air. Please tell me it’s an easy fix like cleaning out the debris in the vent system??? Thanks!!

 

Sure, it could be something easy, or not...

Do you hear the fan come on or do you just hear relays clicking?

What exactly happens when you turn on the fan?

Does this 4Runner have the electronic climate control system? I am not that familiar with those.

 

So you're talking about the blower motor fan that sits under the passenger dash I think. It's very close to the kick panel and under the dash on the passenger side. IF that's it they aren't terribly hard to get to, I think I posted some pics in the build thread....brb....

Yes its the computerized climate control. It’s decijitely physical movement like a fan trying to move or possibly moving slowly and not just a relay cliking


i suspect it’s debris caught in the system as unfortunately the truck has been parked under a willow oak for the last few years

 

Thanks so much!!!! The link you provided was exactly what I needed. Not only that but I was able to remove the blower motor inside of 5 minutes. Love Toyota engineering!!!
the fan was gunned up with a bunch of insulation looking stuff as well as some tree debris. I’ll try to attach a picture

Thought I'd recognized that description, glad it was an easy fix for you. So long as we don't talk about the oil filter orientation the 3.4 4Runner generally hasn't been bad to work and learn on.

 

Easy fixes are usually the best kind!

The next question is where did all of that insulation come from?

You may have some rodents living in or around your 4Runner.
