They are completely different trucks that really dont share much of any parts. Look for a Tacoma for the swap

thanks, so much , i guess i,ll check on buying some frame repair kit material, or put the motor and manual trans mission in the 1992, i have changed chevy engines and trannys for years, can do it ,just don't want to, the engine in the 1996 looks different than the 1992 22re , is it a 2.7 ? also another thought i have is cutting the 1992 frame behind the cab, and weld it on the 1996, that would solve a lot of the rust problems, also does anyone know if the 1996 front clip will fit on the 1992, sorry can't decide which way to turn here. the 1996 is so well maintained, 5 spd. with 215000 miles, i might just get aggravated and sell them both, before i even get started.

Again, completely different trucks. Different frames, different suspension, different engines, different bodys.
Doing an engine swap from the tacoma to the pickup is not like swapping a 350 between old chevys. There is wiring and the computer and plumbing that all has to be changed and integrated. The engine in the tacoma is a 3rzfe which is a 2.7 dohc. The engine in the pickup is a 22re which is a 2.4 sohc. Nothing is really shared between them. The engine swap can and has been done but it's not a bolt in and go kind of thing.

Thanks again ROBERT M. I LUCKILY have 2 brothers that are certified welders, actually haven't bought the 1996 tacoma yet,but i gave the man my word that i would, its only 600.00, which i think is a very good price, and i like the truck, very good condition. except for frame. floor pans are good, If i offer them about 1000.00, they will probably go for it and provide the metal also, they are good at fabricating. i think the truck would be worth putting that much money in or a little more, Thanks for GETTING me stopped before i cut the 1992 in HALF
