can I rebuild my speedo cable?
Ok I've looked everywhere find no referrence to anyone doing this but my 91 toyota 2wd 2.4l 5spd spedo stopped working. After reading how to swap the sr5 cluster ( great thorough post) I opened up dash and cluster came right out. Seems plastic clip keeper lever wire out and will not hold it on.
So if anyone has any idea if I can buy a new clip and repair my cable I'm sure going to appreciate saving 90 dollars not a toyota at any pick and pull for 100 miles right now

So it stopped working due to it fell out?? How many miles on your truck? Was it ever making any noise? Mine started sounding like a screaming weasel @240k. If your going through the sr5 swap and love your truck and have quite a few miles I personally would grab a new cable and call it good for many miles to come.
As as far as replacing the clip I can’t remember if this was a serviceable part or not, and dammit I just threw my old one out too.....ugh!!!!
Edit:
mine was so greasy and old it would pop off the speedo and wouldn’t click, after cleaning it it clicked right on, so you might try to give it a good wipe down and try to put it back on? Unless you can see the locking tab is broken.

Thanks mine is the 4x4 this is the wifes I traded a 92 Suzuki intruder 800 for it straight across. It has 100k orig miles some dents etc doing basic cosmetics they did timing chain has a leak so I'll redo that probably with the dbl chain upgrade from 22reperformance. It's a project because I'm gonna make a show truck out of it for her over time. I was hoping to replace clip because just bought property and spending a fortune on fencing etc. I'll just have to duck it up like you say spend the money.
I belonged to a mini pickup club as a kid and a cabinet maker did an awesome truck in cedar and brass like a treasure chest we have something like that in mind here like I said long slow project
Thanks for the reply
