faded top restore?

i just bought an 89 runner a few weeks ago. red paint, "red" top. i would PREFER a black top, but will settle for a RED top again. read: my top is very faded and is now what men will call "light-red" (women call it pink). 1. is there a good product to restore the color of my top? 2. is there a way to paint it properly? 3. should i just look for a black top and switch it with mine? any suggestions?

Hey man......I have the same problem.

I coated it with 2001 car wax.....then it dried up in about 1hr. Then I broke into my Meguiers Gold Class.....lasted about 2hrs but better than when i bought the Runner.

I agree that we may need to use the product from WEST MARINE, or somthing of the like.

or just paint it. i think i might just do that. i'd prefer black on it anyways. i'll talk to a body shop first to verify the TYPE of paint, cuz i only want to do it once. but with it being fiberglass, the right type of spray paint should do the trick. i doubt it would need to be professionally painted in order for it to look good.

My old neighbor works for a body shop. I'm going to take my top in when the weather is nicer and see if he can paint it.
Let us know if you take yours in.
