Switching 22RE from a '91 to an '87

Hi all!

I recently rebuilt the 22RE in my '91 truck. I am looking at getting an '87 4Runner with a blown motor, and was wondering what all would be needed to do a heart transplant?

I know that the oil pressure sensor will need to switch, as the '87 has an SR5 dash. I've heard that the injectors should stay as well? Would it be easiest to just strip the old engine of all sensors and plugable things, and put them on the new motor?

Thanks!

Your putting the rebuilt 91 Engine into the 87.

Simple thing just install the 91 engine as a Long block using the injectors , engine harness, sensors and ecu that are in the 87 4Runner

Good time to replace or have the injectors cleaned and flow tested with a fresh rebuild

Keep the manifolds, harness, and body together. The long block is the same from 85-95.

OK thanks, so keep the existing intake and TB, but I can swap out the long block? I'm going to be adding a header so I'm not too worried about the exhaust.

I'll definitely send the injectors to Witchhunter. I'm going through my rebuild notes to see if there's anything else I need to upgrade/swap out. I'll change out the master cyl and slave cyl while I'm down there, but is there anything I'm missing?

You can use the newer throttle body, its a common modification. Gives better airflow(no curve) and uses the "upgraded" air valve.

The new style fuel rail doesn't have the pulse damper, you can use it but you need the fuel line and banjo bolt also.
