A340H Txfr Case Rear Output shaft Vibration
It's a 92 3.0 and the odometer read 74k at the time. I knew when we got this truck there was a vibration starting at 55mph and I think it would kind of disapate after 60... but I knew one day I'd have to deal with it. It's my dad's truck and every pink purple and blue moon I'll need to drive it to hear or feel something to be repaired. Welp, it's upon us that I need to do something about the vibration. Today I noticed when bringing it to the house to start on a heater core replacement (I tapped out and just upgraded his stereo instead lol... I gotta drive 500 miles tomorrow, aint got time!) that the vibration I was hearing and feeling wasn't the knobby tires that should have been rotated forever ago. Anyway I climb under and I can feel a slight bit of slack in the output shaft. In moving it to check for ujoint wear, all the slack I see and feel is at the output of the txfr case.
I fear I'm doomed and I'm going to have to remove the entire setup to correct this aren't I? Is the output shaft internally mounted or would it slide out if I were to remove the ujoint and axle? I ask because It's been quite a while since I had to drop a trans and if I have to do this, I'm snatching it all out, relocating exhaust crossover, replacing seals/gaskets/pumps, and anything else I can think of in hopes it's years before I have to get back in there. I believe the truck only has 99k btw.
