1994 pickup with 22re EFI engine. Rough idle just happened with no warning. Check engine light IS NOT coming on, so no codes showing up. Have changed --- Plugs, Plug wires, rotor, TPS, pulled and cleaned throttle body assembly, installed NEW Idle air control valve. Engine starts and runs smooth, cold fast idle is not present. Once the engine starts to warm up the idle is very rough, exhaust smells rich. Unplug the tps, idle goes up runs much smoother. Also, with, or without the tps, it goes through the gears just fine, runs good at a higher rpm, just won't idle smooth. ??????

 

When is last time you checked valve clearance?

 

It has been some time ago. Not really leaning too much toward that. Once you get above 1100 - 1200 rpm and up it runs fine.

 

 

You will need to check the temp sensors have good clean grounds and signals. Might need to perform the iacv tests and adjustments. Also verify the tps adjustment is to spec, and ignition timing.

Describe rough idle better. Low? Popping? Sputtering?

Include any recent changes to the system. New cap, rotor ect.

Yeah start with the easy stuff, timing, tps adjustment, no air in the system, intake lines all tight and secure.
