1987 2WD bed WILL fit an 1988 4WD pickup

Hey everyone,

I haven't contributed much to this awesome forum, and been meaning to share this useful piece of info for anyone who has struggled with the idea of bed replacement on a second gen pickup. My original 4WD bed had rotted out at the fenders, and I almost welded a nice flat bed, but I really wanted to retain a stock bed. I'm in VT where the chances of finding a rust free Toyota pickup bed are about the same chances as finding a rust free anything in VT.

I did find however, a 1987 (maybe 86 but he said 87) 2WD bed with the top lip, and a good deck, with only 2 little holes that I patched, which I bought for $80. I scrubbed it lightly, cut out the rust, and painted it the factory blue of my truck. I kept my tailgate because it was in much better condition. It bolted up exactly, the lines match, and at least in this instance I did not have to extend the fuel neck. The only thing that didn't work was I only got 2 of 3 screws into the fuel neck. Also as you might guess the rear fenders are a lot higher than the 4WD, and no flares, but I think it looks fine. So for those of you who were on the fence, at least in this instance it worked out great.
