gave my son a 4Runner .. and hes got a problem . seems the turn signal is killing the engine , dead .. shuts everything off .
anyone ever run into this before ?

On the 22RE, the Engine fuse that supplies critical parts like ECU, Alternator excitation also supply turn signal, back-up light, etc. If there is high resistance along that power run to ECU, and turn signals or other supplied circuit creates too much current flow, there would be excessive voltage drop so ECU may not get the proper voltage. I suggest you check that circuit out. On the 22Re, it looks like this:

Start by measuring voltage before and after the Engine fuse, and where it enters the ECU with turn signal off and with turn signal on.

Like Ray said the ECU is dropping below threshold Voltage so it goes into save myself mode .
It can be caused by the system voltage dropping to low or the voltage to the ECU
I got involved in a case like this that drove the local shop nuts .
If your not aware this can happen you never even think of this .
