I have a 2001 Toyota 4Runner SR5 and just recently the car has been running rough. Whenever I accelerate the check engine light starts blinking and you can smell unburnt gas. I decided to change all the spark plugs and I also changed the 3rd coil (middle one) because I took it to advanced Auto and the code kept coming up with the number 6 cylinder misfire. I also added Chevron Techron fuel injector cleaner for good measures. The problems are still happening with the rough idling and check engine light blinking when accelerating so I took it back to advanced and these are the codes I got.

P0306
P0446
P0770

If anyone could help that would be greatly appreciated!

 

Flashing CEL means engine damage is or will be occurring. Need to stop driving the vehicle or the $$ in repairs goes up and the chance of a recovery goes down.

Hope you can arrange a rental or a second auto.

Lot of codes, this one will take a bit of effort from the group. But hopefully you'll get the help you need.

 

The first 2 are something related to the traction/abs system...are your VSC lights on? Sometimes they come on together with CEL for some reason.

P0446 is something with your EVAP system, and related to the fuel odors. Should check the canister hoses and connections.

That likely is involved with the subsequent misfire codes p03xx.

P0770 is transmission related. When was the last time the ATF was changed? Great time now if its been overdue. Any issues with the drive selector?

A quick read of flashing cel means damage to pricey things like cat converters.

Definitely check the maintenance history. 2001 means its well on its way to 17 yrs.
