Question Funtional Dual Exhaust on a 2000 4runner?

I am trying to install a dual exhaust on my 2000 Limited 4runner 4x4. I have seen Jason Burtmans and only one pipe is functional. I have talked to three different shops and 2 of them said that it is possible to make both pipes fuctionsal. Does anyone see a problem with this??? How should I do it? Is it only possible to do a single in dual out one functional pipe? Please HEEELP!!!

A single to dual is probably the most economical way to go. I have seen a few dual exhaust setups on third gens and this is the way they did it. It will be mostly cosmetic though, I doubt you will see much difference in performance gains when compared to a single outlet.

I have heard that it is a tight squeeze for the second pipe and can lead to some clanging noise. But I have also heard some guys say that this has not happened to their 4Runner, so I guess it is one of those try it out for yourself things

It would deffinately be possible, but you have to be concerned ith the amount of back pressure. If you have a supercharger, dual 2.25" pipes would be fine. But, if you are not supercharged, the lack of back pressure can be detrimental to your engine. Not to mention the fact that you would loose alot of your low end power.
I got an estimate on a dual system right after I bought my rig. The shop would have chopped it right after the cat, welded a y-pipe, and ran the duals around the spare. It would have looks cool, but it was expensive ($650). I decided I would wait. A few months later, the TRD exhaust came up for sale at my dealer. It was $400 and I installed it myself. Hindsight being 20/20, a custom shop could have done a single 2.5" pipe for around $350. Oh well.
