is this stupid?

I want to buy(or take off someone's hands) a used clutch to put in my 4runner. I want to put a used clutch in it temporarily b/c I'm going top swap it from auto to 5-speed. I'll need a 3.0 v6 clutch for the R150F transmission. The reason that I want a used clutch is b/c I don't want to have to turn around in like 2 months and buy another new clutch when I swap in the 3.4 b/c it takes a different clutch. Basically, I don't want to spend un-necessary money when I could be spending it on the 3.4 part of the swap. Anyone have any ideas on where I'd find one?

Sounds like a plan. No need to spend the money twice. Worst case will be the clutch sucks and slips. Then you just have to replace it. How much are you getting the used one for? Good luck with the swap. Ben

it'll probably work fine, but my opinion is that putting a used clutch in is like putting in used brake pads

I'm currently running a used, junk-yard clutch in my truck. No issues so far. It ll depends on the clutch, obviously don't use one that is too thin or shows abvious burning on the pressure plate/flywheel. I got lucky, I was just looking for a flywheel and when I took it all apart, found a nearly new Luk Gold series clutch so I bought that too.

Not trying to flame yuh but yes putting used pads in is ghay. Putting in a used clutch is safe being if its dead you will know by looking at it or you will not being going far once installed.

Why don't you just swap the auto with the 5 speed when you do your engine swap? Then you won't even have to pay for the used clutch. It's only 2 months. That's not very long.

Inventing too much hastle trying to put a used clutch in.
Cause you can fubar the whole deal or screwi the pooch on the pilot bearing.

Don't waste your time. Wait for the build in two months.

yeah, I knew someone would have to be smart and bring that up. lol Anywasy, the reason I wanted to do it this way is because I wanted to have the transmission swap knocked out and make sure I got a good transmission. I can do that swap in a day. But the engine on the other hand, may take a couple so I'd just rather do it separate. Oh, and I haven't found a clutch yet. Know of any?
