Stuck 1983 outer door handles

Have you guys had any trouble with your outer door handles not returning to the down position after you open or lock your door? Mine need to be re positioned with a screwdriver or knife every time I open or lock my doors now. I'm going to pull them sometime this week and try to figure out how to fix them. I'm guessing my springs are worn out now and i know i have some corrosion on the handle pieces themselves, maybe tear apart, clean, clear coat, and new springs. I'm not sure what its going to take, but any input would be appreciated.

or wd40 .. corrosion between the pot-metal cast and the steel rod will create this over years .

I guess I need to lube mine. In the meantime I found that if I lock the door with my key the handle doesn't move and will open properly.

You'll probably have to pull the door panel and check the linkage. The plastic locking clip on the rods get old and do break, allowing the rod to pull away from the handle.

Same thing happened to me when I moved to a wetter climate. I popped off the inner door panel, sprayed the pins that connect the handle to the door with WD40 let it set a few mins, sprayed again and worked the handle a few times. Hasn't happened since, that was mid 2015.
