I see that autozone and napa now carry new complete 3rd gen cv shafts for 10 bucks more than a rebuilt.
Anyone here use these or know of their quality or lack there of?
Whats your advice... rebuilt or new?
My boots are all toast so i need both shafts.

 

Or reboot...messy, but not hard and you get to keep your yota axles.....assuming you still have your yota cvs.

I tried a set of O'Reilly's new china crap. The boots cracked up and fell apart very quickly. Moving over to A1Cardone were a little better other than the boots eating themselves due to cv angle (lifted). I have since gone to Toyota axles and rebooted them rather than give them up. Planning on rebooting from now on.

 

I went with the Napa New CV axles on my 2000 Tacoma been a few years not sure of the mileage so far .

Now these are the ADD axles.

Around the same time I did my 92 4 Runner as well another ADD vehicle.

Now my hardcore Truck Bashing days are over .if that was not the case I could see the need for OEM quality

So far so Good I trust Napa over AutoZone yet

I did get the boot kits from Toyota to rebuild the old axles way to many more critical projects need finished first

In your case I don`t know if time is a issue but there is some company everyone raves about that rebuilds your Toyota Axles that might be a option.

 

Still running original CV axles/joints/boots and all original u-joints at 373,300 miles...

I presume my boots will give up the ghost at some point.

In my case the only reason I changed mine is the boots were pretty much dry rotted .

I am impressed your boots lasted that long have you done anything special??

I had the new A1 Cardone with lifetime warranty from Checker... which was bought by O'Reilly's a few years ago. They honored the lifetime warranty when the boots split, and have done so a few times. I find I get about a year or two out of the new O'reilly axles before I need to swap it for the boot issue. Never broke an axle though - and my front is locked.

I still have the OEM axles... and someday I plan to rebuild them with OEM boots... but ten years goes by quick and... well... someday....

 

I've used the NAPA going on 3 years. No problems so far, but I also haven't bashed the truck off road in a while. I am lifted with some CV angle, and they appear to be holding up well. The NAPA come with the lifetime replacement as well.

 

I got one of the rebuilds from NAPA a couple of weeks ago, same tulip on the back as the OEM I pulled out, looks like a rebuilt Toyota axle to me. Very happy so far especially for $75.
