My 1988 4runner 3.0 V6 3vze is having some problems. It has really rough idle. It'll shut off when it idles for about 10sec. When I press the gas, there will be no response and I will hear very loud popping noise until I put the gas pedal to the floor and then the 4runner will move. Does anyone know what the problem is? I will send a video soon as well. Please help

 

Sounds like timing is off. Do you have a timing light to check it?

Required Tools:
- Timing light
- Paper clip or piece of wire to use as a jumper
- 12mm wrench

You need a timing light to do that procedure anyway - if you don't want to own one check a parts house, some of them rent a lot of tools free.
Did that with a fuel pressure gauge a while back, basically you buy it, use it, and return it within 72 hours in good shape for 100% refund or you can keep it and all is good there too. I know O'Relly and Advance do that here.

But timing is the first thing I would check with what you are describing.
