Howdy there. 1992 22re 4x4 extended cab

Last night I installed a set of new stock rear leaf springs (from sdtrucksprings) on my truck but they are sitting flat with no load. The only thing I can think of is maybe I tightened the shackle bolts too early and too tightly. I will check when I get home. The other caveat is that I haven't tightened down the u-bolts with a socket yet because the new ones I received are 3 inches too long and I am borrowing a cut off tool today to access the bolts.

Any ideas, tips, tricks, cheat codes?

Did they flatten out only after you installed them??

Do you have a load in the bed ??

Maybe you got the wrong ones by mistake it happens all to often

 

true, maybe you got 2wd springs? Cross referance the part number to find out, usually stamped or painted on the top of the main leaf.

 

Yeah they flattened out when I installed them and there is no load. The part number on the sticker matches up with the part number online for the correct springs. I loosened the shackle bolts and it didn't change anything. It rides ok but just looks wrong.

Any other ideas?

 

i think that the stock springs are pretty flat to begin with? look at the ride heights in photos of stock trucks.

it means negative arc under load, when hitting bumps, etc., not very good for leaf springs.

you could try sending a pic of the flat springs to the vendor.

 

Stock arched and rated springs should pass FSM checks, not resting on overload spring ECT.
