Whats the best way to remove the baffle on a 90 22re valve cover? Im wanting to remove it so i can clean out all the crud that has accumulated since the truck was built.
Then Im wanting to figure out how to re-install the baffle after im done. Would it be as easy as tap some holes in the aluminum casting and install screw with loc-tite on them ?

Does anyone have pictures or know of a video I could view ?

I have had this truck for just over 20 years and I think its time to put some elbow grease into the poor guy.

 

Well since it is held in by rivets

Your going to need to drill all those to get the baffle out .

Now if you seldom changed your oil since you owned the truck like 3 times in 20 years it might have some dirt in it .

If you still feel the need your best bet is m6x1 studs loktite with the Red then lock nuts on the studs other wise you have metal pieces bouncing around in the valve cover.

I take it your rebuilding the engine at the same time with a new head and cam??

 

No rebuild planned as of yet. I just want to fix a leaky valve cover gasket and clean the cover itself. I have fixed a few things here and there on the truck and just got the desire to start working on it and getting to where I want it.
Currently its all stock. And very dependable. It was a daily driver for the fist 15 years I ave owned it. But now it's more of a weekend toy.

An industrial ultrasonic bath tank might clean it without disassembly.

Know anybody whos' got one??

I've got a large one, but not quite that big.

 

Another thing to think about is the clearance between the top of the cover and the head bolts .

Tighten the valve cover nuts to tight and it rattles pretty good.
