Guys, First of all I don't want to spend too much money. I am sure everyone started out like this. But I want to do 2 inches of body lift (R.B.) and 2 of suspension (spacers). Will this allow me enough room to run 315 H2 takeoffs? I have a 98 4Runner 4x4. It won't see much offroad, thanks for the advice. Does anyone have any pics of this setup.

Aren't 315's too wide for stock wheels? The H2 wheels are 8 lug IIRC, so they would not bolt up. So, not only will you rub (badly), you need to get new wheels also.

 

So,if you aren't gonna off road much then why lift it and make it more top heavy and decrease cornering ability for just around town driving? The looks factor would be cool tho' but.......

 

315's might be too wide I don't know. X-AWDriver I do like the looks of a lifted runner and that is appeal enough for me. I don't live and breath 4Runner, that is why I am asking all the questions here.

 

Yeah 315's are definetly to wide for the stock rim. You are going to be rubbing all over the place as well, probably front valence, pinch weld, frame, and probably the a-arms as well. You could do the lift you mention and run a 305 All-Terrain tire and have minimal or no rubbing but not a 315. Remember it's not always the height that kills you but most of the time it's the width of the tire that decides if it will fit or not.

 

Actually the 315s are 12.5s and they will fit stock rims. You do have to be concerned with poping the rim off the bead and run low pressure so it doesn't wear to much in the middle. Beadlocks like Bruce's are a good idea when running 35s

 

I like the looks too and if when you do off road you won't be dinking vital parts as easily. I'm just jealous since my Runner won't be lifted for a while yet.

 

Since cost is a factor for ya and it will not see much of the dirt, I'd say go with some spacers (www.cornfedsuspension.com). I think that those spacers are much better than Revtek and Daystar so give em a call. Check out their website for more info.

I think w/ the cornfeds you should be able to run 285/75/16's w/ minimal rubbing.

If you really want to run 315's, the check out what sschaefer had to do .

The other thing I was wondering, aren't H2 take-offs 315/75/17 ? You would (obviously) need new wheels to run these. If you want to clear 33" (285's) then you need 2 inches of suspension lift in the front and a little trimming, and 2.5" in the rear or a 1" bodylift and 2" suspension lift.

There are a few of us NM guys around who could probably help you with the install. In fact, one member here, SteveO did have some used lift gear for sale...DOn't know what he still has, though.

Keep in mind that when Bruce had the beadlocks added, the wheels actually become 8" wide.

 

Yeah it's possible to run the 315's on stock rims, but airing down would be a little hazardous, seeing you will probably pop the rim off the bead. Personally I wouldn't even try it, but it's your truck not mine. I would at least upgrade to a 16x8" rim if you're going to do that.

I suppose this info is both relevant and irrelevant to this scenario. For what its worth, I am running H2 take offs under my 4th gen. They are 315/70R17's. I have them mounted on a 17" wheel that is 8.5" wide. Height/diameter wise, they are a solid 35". Tread width is a little narrower than a 12.5" tire, but not by much...about 12.25". I have 4" of suspension lift thru custom spacers and coils, and uniball upper control arms. I have trimmed the front bumper, removed the mud flaps, removed a bit of the inner fender, pounded the pinch weld, and trimmed other various parts of the fender. Though I no longer rub my control arms or spindles, I still do experience minimal tire rubbing against the frame at a full turn. I have wheeled the runner quite a bit and had no probs, but it is a very very tight fit. I have been contemplating a 1-2" body lift for some time, but have concluded that because the front and rear bumpers on the 4th gens are so intgrated into the rest of the body that it just isnt worth it to me at this point. In my opinion, you are going to need a good 5+ inches of lift to clear the 315's with absolutely no rubbing. The H2 take-offs are extremely affordable and available right now, so it is a hard situation to ignore. I say stick with the 305's or 33's...they will look great and be a lot easier to fit in the fender...I'm just one of those idiots that never knows when to quit...if I add the 2" body lift, I am sure I would try to cram some 37's under my rig.
