Hello, so I have a 96 4runner with an aftermarket alarm system. It's a DEI Rattler 300.

Recently I changed the battery as the car was having a hard time starting up. After I changed the battery I ran into some issues. The car would still not start very well, so I took it in to have the starter and alternator checked. They all checked out great.

However tech noticed that the car will not start with the door closed. The weird thing is if you open any door the car will start. Also, the funny thing is when I turn on my headlights the alarm system chirps randomly and goes off.

I also noticed that the "brain" to the alarm system makes a clicking noise every so often. The key fob does not arm or disarm the vehicle either and does nothing. I finally removed power to the alarm system but the problems still persists.

Anyone out there who would know anything about these type of alarms? Is it salvageable or should I just remove it and put everything back together?

If your going to have an alarm install it yourself .

That way you know where all the connections are and that said connections were done correct .

Depending where you live 95 % of the time everyone just ignores them going off as some sort of false trip

 

Traced all the wires. Checked and double checked them. Still couldn't figure it out. Ended up removing it. Alarm lasted 16 years on my rig. Got it installed at Circuit City when it still existed for those of you who know about them!

 

Good call. It's hard to trouble shoot them sometimes.
