Hi all!

I'm in the middle of a head swap / timing chain replacement / etc. on a 22RE. I put the timing chain cover on before the head. While putting on the head, unfortunately the timing chain got loose for a moment. Hence, I'm not sure the dark link was aligned anymore with the dimple on the crankshaft sprocket.

What is the easiest way to check if the timing chain is off by a tooth (or more)? I did turn the engine and every other time the notch on the crankshaft pulley got to TDC, the dimple on the camshaft sprocket is just before 12:00. Is this enough, or could it be off nonetheless? Should I put the distributor in?

 

I would think if everything is lining up after rotation then your good. I would wait for others with more experience than I have to chime in. 😀
