1998 4runner Transmission HELP!!!

I have a 1998 4runner, the bellhousing cracked that joins the transmission to the clutch. Well, being disabled I got a friend of a friend to fix it. He got me a bellhousing from a local junk yard and dropped the transmission and replaced the bellhousing. NOW... it won't move.. and you can change the gear stick to every gear without pressing the clutch rather it is cranked and running or not.. and when you shut off the motor it sounds like the flywheel is in a bind, it sounds like it is scrubbing.

Pray tell what did the bell housing come from??

Sure sounds like it is different then what you had .

Was the clutch changed while the transmission was out??

Forgot to put the clutch back in ??

How did you manage to break the bell housing ??

The bell housing came from a 1998 Toyota 4runner.. I didn't break the bell housing myself, I purchased it for $1500 and it ran fine for about 2 months. thgen it got to the point that I was having trouble changing gears so I got a local shop to look at it cause I thought the clutch was going out but instead they told me that the bell housing was cracked and had been for a while cause someone had tried using JB weld to hold it together. They told me that I wouldn't be able to buy just the bell housimg, that I'd have to get the whole tranny. So, I went to a local salvage yard and found one identical to mine and had the same friend of a friend who put it on mine to pull it of this one... I paid $40 for it. Same part numbers and all. Due to me having MS I couldn't sit out there and watch him every minute but looking at the tranny and the clutch it looks right, I have clutch pressure. After I realized he had done something wrong I refused to pay the guy until it was working preperly so he left and refuses to come back. I can get under it and like I said.. everything looks right, except the dust shield is missing from the front of the flywheel. My MS has made my arms and hands weak so I couldn't do the work myself and now I have a vehicle that won't move. like I said.. it all looks normal when I crawl under it, the clutch has pressure, the engine cranks and runs fine. It just won't move.

Be nice to know where you live .

All we can give are ideas and suggestions .

For some reason you are able to change gears without the clutch .with the engine running

You have no idea if the shifter is installed correct that it is even going into gear

Transfer casein neutral would still grind trying to shift without the clutch.

The clutch is engaged all the time !!

Is the slave cylinder moving the clutch fork like it should??

If all your old parts were installed and the clutch fork is now stuck with the clutch release bearing putting pressure on the clutch plate .

That would allow the shifting without pushing the clutch and may account for your noise .

Might be as simple as neglecting to grease the ball the fork pivots on

It might have got knocked off center during the install.

I also think you did Correct in not paying to you have a 4Runner that moves .
