Roof Basket Setup

Hey everyone! I'm still squaring away my electrical problems on the new truck (thanks for the help), but I'm also looking into some future mods now ...

First, here's some pics (sorry, camera phone quality b/c, well, they're from a camera phone )

Seeing as how I don't have a bike, but I do have some leftover KC Daylighters, I was thinking about maybe mounting the lights up there. Is it possible? Recommended? Or would I be better off switching over to, say, a basket rack? Will a basket rack go in on top of the bike rack, or will I have to remove the existing & put on something new?

It's a Thule bike rack ... and their website isn't exactly the most helpful thing.

Kind of hard to tell from your photos, but a roof basket rack will slip right on to the Thule bars.

I and Toddski both run Yakima Load Warrior roof racks.
He runs his on Thule bars, I run mine on Yak crossbars.

I still have a Yakima Lock Jaw bike rack on the roof, and it's mounted to the overhang of my crossbars.

You can mount the lights to either the crossbars or a rack on top.
Pics are on my site in the mods section, as well as the Tech section on the forum.
If you decide to just mount them to the crossbars, look at the Yakima plastic mounts I refer to that REI carries.

Where are those at!??! I looked at the Thule website & didn't see anything ... linky linky?

EDIT: Found 'em ... $200 for 2 lights?!?! I think I can custom-build something for less ...

But hey, thanks for the pic

Ok, I've switched plans (once again) ... I'll be keeping the bike rack up front, but in the back, on top of my factory roof rack, I want to mount a basket. What all do I need to do this? I'd like to go with the LoadWarrior, if they are a decent price.

You'll need to get a set mounting towers from either Yakima (Control Tower/Railriders) or Thule. Then crossbars. Either Thule or Yakima baskets will fit directly on those bars.

Try Yakima's rack config. A full Yakima setup is gonna put you at a whopping $457!! Although, Yakima says you can mount the basket directly to a factory rack on a 1994, but not a 1991.Good lUck!
