95 Yota PKUP speedometer overeading

My speedometer reads almost double the speed I'm going. A while back it would not work, then while driving it would work and now it works just not correctly. The odometer does work. Anyone know what it might be and what I need to know to fix it. I have to judge my speed by the RPMs and the gear I'm in and the traffic.

Some speedos in different year and model trucks are cable driven, while others are electronic.

The speedo in my 3vz-e '95 4Runner is cable driven.

If your truck has a mechanical speedo drive, removal of your gauge cluster and replacement, or repair by a specialist is likely your only option.

Electronic speedos have different problems and require different fixes.

Thanks Millbal for the reply, sorry took so long to write you, limited time and not the best computer person still learning how to work and navigate this forum. Yeah I think my speedo is mechanical, but I'm sure I'll find out when I remove it for sure. I'm under the impression the old Yotas are plagued with gauge issues, they sell a lot of them on ebay.
