I have an 88 toyota pickup and i tore the splines on the steering gear. I have been looking for a new steering gear and all i can seem to find are steering gears with hydraulic hookup lines. I bought one from LC engineering and i am curious what i should do with it. I was told not to plug the holes but run a hydraulic line making a loop between the ports. I was wondering what kind of steering i will have with this. Will it be worse than my current manual steering? Should i hold off and wait till i have the money to convert my steering to power? however I never really had an issue with the manual steering before. What should i do?

 

by steering gear you mean steering box? post a link to what you bought at lc engineering.

factory steering boxes are ported for hydro assist, which is what i'm thinking you might have.

not shown there is the power steering pump that you also have to hook up to the steering box... i guess that you could not hook up the hydro assist ram, and just use it as power steering, maybe with toyota factory power steering pump? here is the tg hydro assist pump: https://www.trail-gear.com/TG/PS_Pum...502-1-KIT.aspx

this is a factory power steering box, so your question is how will it work as a manual steering box... i really don't know, but maybe someone else can chime in?
