'84 2wd pickup, hole of some sorts in tranny?

Alright so I decided to track down a leak that has been going on today and when I got under the truck I noticed this small rectangular hole. I'm not sure if it's always been there or suppose to. Any feedback would be great. I can get more pictures if the 1 is not good enough.

Pretty sure that's to allow stuff to vent/drip out or your bellhousing. No fluids are supposed to be in there, so if you're getting fluid leaking out I'd suspect a front seal on the transmission.

Try to determine it the stuff is Gear lube (distinct smell) oil or coolant. Look close up from there at the EGR crossover plate bolts and also the valve cover rear half moon rubber seals. I just went through something like this and the EGR bolts hold a plate that has coolant and exhaust gas behind it but the bolt threads if loose tie into the oil passage in the head and can drip oil....but look good at valve cover and half moons first. If gear lube the front trans seal is bad as stated in earlier post. and I do think the hole is a weep hole so if it is not wet in there it may well be the VC or EGR plate

Yep, that's a weep hole in the bell housing. The oil is probably just the engine oil leaking from the rear main seal but definitely check the type of oil it is and if you're low on the engine oil or trans oil.
