I'm starting to plan for getting my 4Runner vinyl wrapped. My 86 has the stock plastic chrome moulding on the rockers. I'm curious how this comes off without breaking it. If anyone has any pictures of the clips or backside of the trim, it would be very useful.

if you pull the long plastic carpet panel off, that's located on the floorboard under the door, you can shine a light down into one of the holes and barely see the end of the connector.

it looks to me like a long center stem pushed into a rubber connector, but please report back with whatever you find.

 

I haven't had a chance to look at my truck yet but I did find this graphic that helps identify the type of fasteners used.

 

Do you intend to put them back on? I pulled mine off with a big flat screwdriver and filled the holes. They are a rust magnet and don't really add anything to the appearance.

 

I'm looking to remove and fill in the holes. I already have sliders so access is limited.

 

If you're looking to get rid of them why bother being careful with them? Just rip them off.

 

I am planning on getting rid of it, but I can't leave the holes open for water to get in - I need to be able to cover up/close up the holes the same day.


I just picked up some diamond plate rocker guards from NWOR. So I think they should do the trick. The only catch is that my sliders are welded to the frame some it will be tight mounting them in certain spots.
