Anybody been to the scales with their trucks?
1981 4wd short bed
2640 lbs empty, without me and low on gas.

 

81 4wd long bed here. With 31s, plywood in the bed, no people, a half tank of gas, monster heavy rear bumer, and minor miscellaneous junk (fire extinguisher, bottle jack...), the garbage dump scale said 3220#.

Back in its day, mine was the largest, most specced-out and pimped-up Hilux you could get. It claimed to get 18/22mpg. Fast forward to 2014, when according to the factory brochure, the bottom-rung least-optioned short-bed short-cab 2wd Tacoma you can buy weighs 3600#, and gets the same mileage. Can anyone spell P-R-O-G-R-E-S-S? Anyone?

With a camper shell and packed to the brim (including a disassembled e-locker, a spare W56 with case, and several boxes of heavy tools), I read right around 4700# on a moving trip a few months ago.
