Talking Cody91 93 4Runner build up

So I'm back in the Toyota game !!!!

Little background.
When I moved from Idaho to California 4 years ago I was only able to take one rig with me and so I had to sell my 88 runner and I was kinda bummed. After I got back I sold my 91 single cab to get a truck with more room so I got a 97 runner did a little stuff to it but under all the undercoating it was rusted to ˟˟˟˟ so I sold it and got a 04 Subaru WRX drove that and got tired of the heavy ins bill so I sold it and got a tow pig 01 Ford F-350 crew cab long bed 7.3 diesel. Last summer I picked up a Subaru Legacy for 500$ put a few $ into it and had a plan of boosting it but I was missing having a Toyota so put it on the good old inter webs and traded it for this 93 4Runner sr5

Ok so on to the 4Runner
1993
3.0 3vze
5 speed
305k miles

Got to spend a little time with the runner the day after i got it home.
The dash was not bolted up took it apart and cleaned a little. So i got some bolts for it from my toyota bolt bin and replaed them.

The inside is dirty and stinks so some cleaning is needed

on my drive home i found

Clutch is on its way out
Driver mirror is Broken
need all joints replaced in the front end
Windows need some help they are slow
Rear window switch does not work
Left rear door outside door handle does not open the door
funky alarm system
Fan clutch is broken and about to let the fan go
Wipers suck

On the plus side

Service Records from day 1
AC/Heater Works Good
Wired for sub and amp

yeah but its just a number its not my DD or only truck so its just gonna be a toy and its all rebuildable
It ran good drove 60 miles home and it has had a new engine 100k miles ago cost $5800. i have all the service records from day 1

and i traded a Subaru Legacy With 336k, it had more in wheels and tires than the car was worth.
i think i got the better end of the deal.

Update 3/06/16

Well did not get as much done as i wanted to but did make some progress

Had to have my puppy spayed this weekend and put in a new entry way floor.

But i did tare down the axle and found some stuff i was not happy about
when i get it i was told it was just rebuilt ready to go. But when i stater to tear into it it was not looking good.

I did not like the way the brakes were set up. i have a plan for them that runs 97 tacoma rotors and 93 IFS calipers, Hub assembly and wheel studs from the rear axle

Also found the Trunnion bearing's to be damaged and and some rust and nasty fluid in the housing

and no gaskets any were on the axle just RTV

also the wiper and felts are damaged

So i had to order some parts they will be here in the middle of the week

PIC TIME !

Well not much has been done in the last few weeks

im hoping to get the axle under the truck in 2 weeks. i will have to put the axle in with no shafts or 3rd member.

i had a change in plans i was told the axle had 4.56 in it and i did not check so now i have to re-gear and im running short on funds so its gonna have to wait for a wile.

but if i can get the axle under it than i can finish up the brakes and and do some cleaning and free mods wile i build funds back up for the gears and locker.

This coming weekend im going to
Clean the carpets
install new mirror and trim
wire up the radio
paint some of the trim black
remove rear bumper and tow hitch

Small Update 4/22/16

Got a little done Last weekend

Carpets cleaned
washed the rig
Removed rear bumper and tow hitch (It does Not Sag as much in the rear now)
Removed Factory Spear tire Date code said 1992 not much help when its flat and old.

New
plugs,cap,rotor,wires

Than me and my buddy were going to hit up some trails and had a little problem

So i did the Cap,Rotor,Pugs & Wires also Adjusted the timing to 12º
Ran it up a 7% grade did good 60mph the hole way before i was lucky to get to 50Mph

so i stopped at the gas station to wait for my buddy we toped off i used 91 and a bottle of Lucas fuel treatment (the small one). we headed up another hill on the freeway and thats when the check engine light came on and it had a bad miss.

Pulled over so i could check the wires and plugs they were all good put the timing back to 10º and it was still there. not noticeable at idle but under any throttle it has a miss. Checked the code only one was Code 52 KS witch i had before this happened.

limped it back to the shop and checked all the plugs and replaced them once again with NGK V-power (OEM replacement) Same thing

Put the old wire, cap, and rotor back in and it was worse now it has a miss at idle.

thats when i gave up for the night and had to head home.

i was thinking about it over the week and think one of the injectors has failed/clogged.

maybe the injector cleaner broke some junk up before the injectors and it clogged the little screen in the top of the injector.

if any one has some input on this issue let me know.

any way i got a compression tester but left it at work

im also going to go pick it up this weekend so i can work on it after work not just on the weekends..

Update 5-6-16

Well i has been a crazy few weeks but have got some done on the runner

Got it home !

painted the front bumper black (bed liner)

found out that my miss is coming from a bad injector
my #2 injector is open so it was not firing

Update 5/28/16

A lot has Happened in the last few Weeks

Got the engine all put back together no fuel leeks.

Took it out for a test drive and it did good till i got the dreaded code 52 again now it comes on as soon as i hit 1600RPM so i guess i have to find out if its the wiring from the ecu to the KS or the piggy tail. Thats for a later weekend.

So i was tired of have to do all my welding at work witch is 60 miles round trip so i got my self a Lincoln 180 of the good old craigslist. came with a cart, gas, and flux core wire.. but i got it all set up to use .035 solid wire with 75/25 argon/co2.

So now with having the welder i had to replace one of the spring perch's on the axle and add my gusset. got that all done and put in my new 5.29 from CoresWest and finished assembling the axle.

No Going Back Now!

Well there is no going back now! IFS is out and frame is ground down.

i did not have a plasma cutter or Oxy torch so my only way was a grinder with a cutoff wheel and a Sawzall..

i used 5 torch blades and one diablo blade for the sawzall & 6 cutoff wheels and 2 flap wheels 80/40 grit.

Took 5 hours to cut and grind it all down and make your arms fell like jello.

getting ready to cut the holes for the frame tubes and mount the hanger.

here is a few pics from the day of cutting.

Also got a new air compressor from HF Was on sale so i could not pass it up.

Big update !

Well i got a lot done in the last two weekends but not enough to be able to take it for a test ride.

frame tubes are in spring hanger is welded on and the axle is bolted to the springs.

got the pitman are off and the new one on. only broke the tool one time not to bad lol

Just need to finish up a few things
  • Weld motor mount plate
  • Shock's and Hoops Welded
  • brake line's and New pads
  • adjust steering stops and high steer
  • fill the diff with gear oil
  • install diff breather
  • make a drive shaft

Than i can start on the A$$ end so i don't have the So-Cal lean going on haha

Well PCI TIME ! ! !!
