Best engine option 86 pickup 22r, carb?

The rod bearings failed on my 86 and I'm looking to buy a whole new engine block? Any suggestions?

Do you want to get into the expense and technical challenges of a swap?

Do you want to keep carburetion?

There are several swap candidates, and you'll hear fans of each endorse every one of them. You could go with a 3rz, or you could go to the 3.4. Or you could put in a Vortec.

Use Google to search "22re swap options" to find existing discussion on this subject, because everything you want to know has been talked about plenty. Let Google help you find it easier, here or anywhere.

Most opinions will suggest that replacing with another 22re block, then building up the top end and fuel delivery, is a better cost/effort:gains/reliabilty ratio. Which is what i did when i was in your position 5 years ago. I purchased a new long block with 3 year unlimited mileage warranty. Good enough for me.

But if you desire something new, there are plenty of options.

If your asking this question .

My thought is to replace with just what you have now if your doing the work or paying to get it done .

It will be the less amount of overall Labor.

If your mechanically inclined and want a improvement maybe the 3.4 swap.
