I was involved in a collision last week and am looking for some first hand experience and maybe advice on my situation.

The summary of the accident is that a van was travelling in front of me at about 45-50 mph and hit a bump. The trailer then popped of of the ball and was doing its own thing(safety chains were on and just straightened out). While avoiding the trailer that was swerving around i went as far right as i could go as the trailer went left and right into the side of another person. The original trailer tower went to the right and also slammed on brakes. I ended up hitting the left rear corner of his Van while avoiding a careening trailer.

In Florida any rear end collision is the fault of the rear-ender and is ticketed(careless driving I believe). the van driver was cited for his trailer coming off and hitting the other vehicle, however i was not cited for hitting him. The officer kind of sided with me that it was his fault but could not write a ticket putting him at fault because i hit him in the rear. we filled out a form that is basically a insurance exchange and that is it. In the pictures i took i noticed the Trailer he was towing is a 2" receiver that was on a 1 7/8" ball so i think after everything i should be ok as not being at fault.

I guess my main questions are what are these worth to insurance companies? I'm assuming not much and i really want to buy it back and fix it. How did your Accidents work out?
