22RE low idle / hard start

Just swapped a 22re into the truck. It starts ok cold but idles super low 300 and down. Once warmed up it won't start unless I press the gas pedal a few times while cranking. Drove around the block, has now power. No codes from the EFI system. I've checked for vacuum leaks, egr, new wires, new alternator, injectors have new o-rings. Tried adjusting the TPS, no luck. AFM flapper is moving, O2 sensor is fairly new. Any ideas? I'm racking my brain on this!...searched quite a bit, but no luck finding answers.

You probably already checked it but didn't see it mentioned... Have you tried adjusting the idle set screw out?

Also could try timing and compression check. Either could explain a lack of power and funky idle.

yes, messed with the idle screw, didn't check compression, but I think it's a head gasket now, oil looks like chocolate milk. Guess this engine is coming out

Aww boo. Sorry to hear that!

Well, at least you know what the problem is. With these motors, that is 75% of the battle! Idle and start issues can be kinda tricky to diagnose.

thanks, it's true, I'm relieved to know what the problem is... my fault for taking a gamble on an engine that the seller knew little about... :p

I have the same problem and my engine was recently rebuilt and installed. I took it in running like a clock, not it is rough and not so easy to start. I am thinking really hard on
maybe trying to get a refund.
