94 4Runner 3.0 V-6 will not start and strange tap sound from airflow meter
Hi,
New to the forum.
I have a 94 4 runner 4x4 V-6 w/ 220k mi that went from running fine to running with almost no power no matter how much gas you give it. IF put in neutral you can rev the motor and it would be fine, no uneven idle, no real missing sensation and no strange noises good flow from the exhaust ( I checked). But when driving it would barely accelerate. No on day 2 it wont start at all. I checked spark from the igniter/coil which is fine, checked all spark plug wires, cap, rotor, etc. I can smell a slight fuel smell in the engine bay ( prob vapor). I did replace the airflow meter assembly today because I noticed that the door/ flap inside the meter was making a tapping sound as I crank the engine ( a noise I do not ever remember hearing before in 4.5 years of ownership). Still no change, I checked all the fuses and they are fine. I have no CEL illuminated on the dash so no code is avail and have checked everything I could think of. I'm guessing maybe fuel pump or filter next but I do smell fuel in the engine bay area after cranking the engine. The 4Runner is in very good shape and I have always maintained it well but at 220k mi I guess things will fail.
IF anyone has any valuable info on why this is happening I would really appreciate the input. Thanks.
