While I am very happy with my truck behaving itself nicely, there are still some maintenance things that I want to get done before they turn into problems. First off is the wheel bearings, I don't know when they were last repacked and their current condition is unknown. So I'm hunting replacements for all 4 wheels.

The shocks on all the wheels are in very rough shape as well, and likely not working at 100%. Since this truck is my daily beater I'm not looking at lifts or any other modifications, it works fine in its current shape.

For the suspension I found a kit from Sensen on Amazon for about $90 that has all 4 shocks. ( http://amzn.com/B00HRY1N12 ). If anyone has experience or feedback on this brand please let me know.

Wheel bearings have been a bit more problematic as I'm trying to make sure I get the right bits and pieces to do the overhaul and replacement correctly. Right now I've got my eye on a set made by Timken, at $10 it doesn't look bad, but additional input would be appreciated. ( http://amzn.com/B000BZ6Z4Y ).
The rear bearings I'm a little less sure of. I'm thinking that these GMB bearings ( http://amzn.com/B00S1D8OP6 ) will work.

I've yet to locate the seals and associated gaskets, but I'm getting there. I'd appreciate your feedback and suggestions.

 

Assuming it is 4WD, you need the following parts...

Toyota OEM part #'s, (2 of each)...

90311-66003 Oil Seal
90215-42025 Lock Nut
43422-60010 Gasket
43531-60010 Gasket

There is also a seal on the dust cover that should be replaced. Toyota wants about $30 a piece for this seal so I use Beck Arnley part #0523487 for about half the price. The Beck Arnley is made in Japan and appears to be from the same supplier as Toyota.

As far as the rear bearings, if it were me I would not bother replacing them unless they are making noise. They are lubricated with the axle oil and don't need routine maintenance. You also need a shop press to replace them properly. I have almost 200,000 on my original bearings both front and back.

Timken is OEM for Toyota, that is what I have on my front. They are a good quality bearing and used to be made in the USA. Not sure if they still are. You will need a bearing driver to seat the race in the hub.

I personally called Marlin Crawler and ordered two sets of their wheel bearing kits when I redid mine last summer, they come with new bearings, races, gaskets, 54mm washers, and a new lock ring. And all parts come from the OEM suppliers.

Currently my truck has 240k on it. It's been fairly good to me in the short time I've owned it, but I keep finding basic maintenance things that have been neglected. I'm wanting to do the wheel bearings and shocks as I've discovered an occasional shudder in the steering above 50 mph. My thought is to go ahead and replace the bits that I know have been worn a good bit and see if the problem persists.

Regarding tools and such, I'm not hurting for equipment. I do blacksmithing and timber framing for a living/fun. I've got a 10 ton press at my shop and can go borrow my buddy's 40 ton if I need it.

Right now I'm leaning towards getting timkens for the inner and outer front. Your information on the seals should be very helpful.

I've always ran Timkin bearings on all my rigs, never had a problem with them. Just remember to also buy the matching races for the fronts.
