where to find Idler arm FA 5040
Greetings, I'm a little new to this posting thing, so you'll have to forgive me if I don't present things in a proper manner.
Ok. I have a 92' Toyota (of course) pickup extra cab 22re 4x4 with many miles on it. Rebuilt engine at 265 and I hope to get many miles from the current engine. The rebuild was with a new short block and not a crate motor. Anyway, I need a new Idler Arm and I would like to put a new one in with Bronze bushings. So far, of the 4 parts stores in my area I have struck out looking for the genuine McQuay-Norris or is it Raybestos arm? I called McQuay-Norris and they said it was a Raybestos part. (?) There are some old posts here on YotaTech from 2012 that doesn't address where one could find the proper arm. I am getting the feeling that this arm is of mythical status and may once have existed when my 92 pickup was young. The question that myself and perhaps many others folks have is. Where do I find the real McCoy? If anyone out there can shed some light on the subject that would be awesome.
Cheers, Chiefmanymiles

I was looking it up just now, and found rockauto had one Reybestos idler arm for only a 2wd not a 4wd and only one left. So I did some research and apparently (if I understand correctly) Affiniagroup (parent of Reybestos and McQuay) were bought out by Federal Mogul. So I did some search on Federal Mogul, and they apparently also known as Moog. So maybe there was a rebrand?

EDIT: Oh never mind, didn't see Roberts post.

Thx. Ordered in a FA5040 from AZ and it had the (555) on the arm and if I understand 4crawlers article that is the one arm to avoid. Also, Trial Gear doesn't list idler arms. Guess, I'll look into the Federal Mogul thing.
Any body with other ideas?
Cheers

I just ran into the same problem. The AZ one is not the McQuay they used to sell. I would like to find the real one so I can do the bronze bushings and a brace. I called autozone and they were no help. Let us know if you have any luck.
Edit: just called McQuay, and was obviously redirected to Federal Mogul. They didn't really have any useful information and said there is only one configuration. I found this on the McQuay website

But can't figure out if it is the right one, or where to buy it. I found some claiming to be McQuay on eBay but who knows. This might be a question for 4crawler himself.

Like I said earlier. The 20 mm (.786) diameter shaft is a mythical beast. I'm sorta thinking to go with what looks the best of the lot of what I've found and call it good. Not my first choice. The Total Chaos arm looks great at $389 bucks. I kinda don't need that much arm. Ten days ago I wrote Affiniagroup asking what the diameter is and up to now haven't heard anything. Guess, another call is in order.
