OEM Rims

I have owned many minitrucks from the years of 1979-88. I believe I have had all the different types of rims until I bought the current '81 I'm planning on doing a sheet metal resto on in the spring.

It has the normal stock wagon wheel type rims avaialble on SR5 vehicles but they are gold. I've only seen this in pics and thought that the owners had them painted that way. Any advice would be appreciated!!

I believe the gold rims were available in 1984 and 85. 1981 had the chrome and white spoke rims and the plain solid white rims. not positive, but pretty sure. maybe someone can correct me.

You could very well be right. Any pic that I've seen those type rims were the 84-85 mini or 4Runner and they were mostly red vehicles.

The only thing I can argue is that this rig is pretty bone stock. It even has the old center caps front and rear. Like you said, hope someone else chimes in.

What's your question? Whether gold rims came stock? I don't believe any Toyota ever had gold wheels from the factory.

I will put my lunch money up that they are stock from some year Toyota. Here's two pics I nabbed from Google.

Oh yeah, to answer your question.....yes. I am wondering what years came equipped with gold colored SR5 wagon wheels.

gold wheels

Can you post a few pics of the truck with the wheels? I am dying to see what it looks like. I have been wanting to install the gold wheels on one of my trucks for years. I have a ton of pictures from the net of trucks with gold wheels. It is my opinion that they were only offered in 84 and 85. most trucks and 4runners were white or red in color. I have actually seen a black 4runner with the gold wheels and it looked awesome.

Find a original Toyota Truck brochure from 84-85, should be listed as an option....you can usually find brochures on ebay for a few bucks or from Autolit.com....I have one for every year 79-83 and all options shown...

I don't think I've ever seen them in a brochure. I will point out that some dealers would take your new truck to places that would add options. Then you could fold the cost into the payment. I had Outlaw II wheels added that way. So they could be on a truck since new, just not from Toyota. If you take a wheel off it should show the manufacturer some where on the back.

While searching for pictures of my old truck, I came upon this forum and this thread. I PM'd the OP, but to answer about the gold rims. I owned a new 1985 SR5 with extended cab. Red with the gold rims from the factory. Dealer did not install them. It was a very nice truck
