I have a 94 pickup 3L v6 4x4. I was driving home, switching from 2nd to third gear, when I tried to pull it out of 2nd, the shifter went limp and is flopping all over the place. Not sure what broke but any ideas?

 

Could've actually broken the shifter shaft. Can you remove the shifter?

 

Unbolting the shifter would definitely give you a good indication of what broke. All it takes is unscrewing the shift knob, taking the screws out of the shift boot, and the for bolts in the top of the tranny.

I took the shifter out, I can move the piston around in the top of the tranny with my finger, guessing shouldn't be able to do that. Forks broke possibly?
