Hi all. I am slowly trying to fix up my new toy, starting with replacing the dash pad. Mine is cracked as most do at this age. I acquired a replacement from a local 86 4runner that was to be sent to the scrap yard. It doesn't have the holes drilled for the inclinometer but I want to install it, a buddy of mine had given me an inclinometer.

So my question is, can the 89 "short dash" be converted to the 84-86 "long dash" without much trouble (I'm hoping a simple swap with same bolt locations)? And second question is where do I drill for the bolt hole locations for the clinometer, just go from the underside

I'm assuming this is where I'll need to drill for the inclinometer (red for mounting studs, orange for wiring)? I've searched around and didn't really see any good writeup or detail and want to be sure before I screw up a nice dash pad



Hopefully somebody can confirm my ideas so that I can get a nice new dash swapped in

 

Ok well I went for it and all the holes lined up except for one but you won't be able to tell anyway since the inclinometer shell will cover it. I poked holes through with a sharp pick then used a hobby knife to cut the holes. These old dash pads are brittle and I think a drill bit would have destroyed it haha.




The front drivers side hole was not the one I thought, it was closer to the front of the dash.


Also my inclinometer was missing one of the knobs and screws, found out Toyota still makes these for a whopping $2.50, sweet deal!




Once it gets warmer here I'll swap the dash pads out, hopefully it is a like for like between the long and short dash pads if not I will make it work either way, my old dash is beat.
