Just replaced my clutch master and slave cylinder on my 88' pickup,bled the master and now truck won't go into gear! I'm a 1st timer so might have overlooked something? Any help greatly appreciated! Thx

 

Did you adjust the pedal free play to within specifications?

Are you sure you got all the air out when you bled the master and slave?

Get just one of those two off and you won't have a usable clutch.

 

Maybe it was just misstated .

But you need to bleed the clutch Hydraulics via the bleeder valve on the slave cylinder.

Some of these China built parts fail right out of the box.

try bleeding it in the correct way and see what happens.

Then just why did you replace them ?? Had one or the other failed??

 

I think clutch pedal free play may be off a bit. I'm gonna adjust it and see if that does the trick. I'll also re bleed the valve at slave to make sure all air is out thx! I will repost progress

 

That's the other thing I'd suspect.
If you got your parts from O'Reilly's, Autozone or Pep Boys there's a good chance you got garbage. There's all kinds of members here complaining about hydraulic parts from those places being bad out of the box or failing very quickly after installation. Some people have better luck with the PREMIUM parts from NAPA or Carquest.
Most long time members here won't take a chance with ANY clutch parts from either of those places.

Instead they prefer to purchase Aisin brand master and slave parts. Aisin is what these trucks came with from the factory and they seem to work quite reliably. Even with shipping the best/cheapest place to get those parts I've seen is rockauto.com.

I'd say if you can't get it to work with the parts you got after a re bleed and free play adjustment it's time to return them and purchase Aisin parts.

 

Went back and adjusted pedal free play and that did the trick! Works and shifts great now with new fluid in both cylinders thx again!

 

And yes I went with Asin on both parts cause I've heard too many stories of those generic parts not being very reliable! Thx again

Now if I can just figure out the annoying drip from the clutch lever boot! Seems to be a very small bit of oil....

 

Clutch Lever Boot??

Do you have gear oil or engine oil dripping out of the Bell Housing??

Coming down the outside dripping off the boot??

You need to figure out just what it is

Brake fluid from bleeding the clutch that was not cleaned up??

 

I just went out this morning after wiping everything down last night and Ive got a dime size drip coming from the tip of the clutch lever. Appears to be coming from boot/bell housing area? Not 100% sure it's oil it almost smells like gear oil? The location has me stumped but I'm gonna change valve cover gaaket anyway cause it needs it. I know oil drips can come from all directions but at least it's not a massive amount. Also I'm gonna check for any tear or split in the clutch lever boot? Thx again I'm still a rookie!

 

It is called the Clutch Fork.

 

If the fluid on the floor mixes with water it's brake fluid, if it doesn't it's trans or engine oil.

 

Did you get the right MC for it?? There is a difference between V6 and I4 clutch cylinders. they are not interchangeable. Right box wrong part syndrome.

Also make double sure you got the clutch fork on properly. I've done it enough and it still falls off sometimes.
