Just got fenders from an '83 4WD.....has fuel injected badge??

I just picked them up today from CL, and I was surprised to see the fuel injected emblem below the 4WD emblem. I'm guessing that someone installed EFI on the truck or pulled a motor from a celica which had EFI, installed the motor and slapped on the badge.

I have read that some later 84's came with EFI, but I highly doubt that it went back to the first gen trucks. The guy I got the parts from has had them in his garage for over 30 years. He used to be a Toyota tech and he pulled them off of a Toyota that was in a bad accident and was headed to the crusher. He claimed the truck had EFI, and was pretty sure it was from the factory, but I didn't want to get into a debate. They still have the factory paint on them with the stripes, and zero rust. I will get some pics tomorrow.

One big plus (for me) was I scored them for $50 which also included a mint grille with the Toyota badge.

I have heard of 22REs before 1985, but mainly on 2wd trucks and Celicas. The 22RE appeared in 1982 according to Wikipedia, but I sure have never seen one in those years. Keep in mind that 8/83 and later was most likely a 1984 model. If the fender you have is from a 1st gen 4x4, then that is a rare emblem you have! You might be able to make some money just by selling the emblem on eBay and keeping the fender.

Could you post a picture? I like to see rare Yota stuff!

Yeah, I figured as much. Maybe it had a small block with TBI installed under the hood?? Oh well, they are heading to the media blaster next week after I take the emblems and splash shield hardware off.

What did that factory stripe kit look like? Mine is the standard tri-color one which is higher on the fender and much larger.

How much for the kit seen on your Avatar?

I checked out your site about a month ago. You definitely do nice work, and offer a very fair price for your items. That kind of work takes ALOT of time as well as ALOT of skill.

Thanks!! I'm a long ways off before needing the stripe kit, but I'll be sure to send you an email when I get closer to that point.

I agree with slacker that it does look like an early 90's GM decal, but it sure matches the Toyota emblem perfectly. I will have to keep my eye out for early 22REs!
