82 4x4 Toyota Pickup frame suggestions
Hey guys, new to Yota Tech and the entire restoration process. I inherited this project from my dad. The frame is in bad shape, The back of the frame was already boxed once but then proceeded to rust out since. I am on a small budget and would love to hear any options you would suggest that is both time and budget friendly. Also can this frame even be salvaged or do i need to build a fresh frame?

I have seen others repair worse. Depends on your welding skills. I knew a guy that recently sold a perfect long bed frame for your generation of truck for $100. I have swapped several frames and not a hard job to do. It will depend on your location on finding a frame or your skills at welding. I know there are two threads on here where two members rebuilt the back half that looked worse then what you have.

Like Terry said it all comes down to your skills.
Just where are you located ??
Then it also comes down to just what the use of the truck is going to be.
I have seen some nice jobs of where new steel tube was mitered where it goes over the axle that looked nice.
I have also seen rectangle tube bent with the proper dies.
Many interesting ways to go about this.
The bed is already off making it much easier.
I am sure depending which route you decide I can help you out .
Terry and I disagree in a friendly way I think it is much easier to repair a frame then do a frame swap. Then I live to be proved wrong.

I have repaired a frame with 14 rot spots, I just had to cut the rot until there was solid metal, then cut a piece of new metal the same shape and weld it back on, it's hard to tell from the pics if it is salvagable but I'm sure it is if you have the patience and skills.
If you are in the states, sometimes it is much easier to find a better frame, they go for 100-500$ with no rust if you take the time to look for them.
