1988 22r bogs at high rpms

'Donna', my 1988 22r pickup (no upgrades to my knowledge) idles and drives great, but at high rpms in any gear it seems to misfire and fall on its face. let off the gas, and shes back to normal. no problems revving up in neutral though. she has a nice gaping exhaust leak, coupled with back firing upon deceleration. could these issues be connected? any ideas? thanks!!!

Have you checked the fuel filter? Before I start chasing problems, I make sure there is a good tune up on the truck. All hoses connected correctly and no vacuum leaks.
