92 4Runner taillight/brake light issue

Hi all,

I've searched for awhile and cannot find a similar issue reported or resolved.

Whats going on is when I turn on my headlights, my rear driver side taillight comes on but not the passenger side. When I hit the brakes, the driver side goes out completely and the passenger brake light lights up. I have checked the bulbs and they are good (1157 dual filament) and I don't have a trailer harness.

I have also looked thru the wiring schematic and I cannot see an obvious spot that both brake lights and both taillights all come together. (to me it seems like one side is shorting to the other??)

Any thoughts??

Thanks,

Nick

Clean your sockets with a fitting brush and your bulbs with a scotch brite pad see if that helps

As it usually turns out, one confusing issue turned out to be two simple, unrelated issues. The passenger side taillight was a corroded spade connector in the plug. Both sides were getting bad, now hardwired. Still have to chase up the driver side harness and find the bad connection.
