i have a 1980 toyota that had a 20r motor in it and the guy was towing a nissan path finder back from seattle and made it to vantage and started up the hill and downshifted and hit reverse it messed up the tranny and cracked the block he is in a resort in walla walla for 10 to fifty years so his ex wife gave me the truck to get it out of her yard. my question is can i put a 22r motor and tranny in where the 20r and tranny was? 22r parts a a lot cheaper and easier to get.

 

Anyone worth their weight in welding rods could put a 22r in place of a 20r.

 

It is all most impossible to down shift into reverse.

There must be another story behind this .
