2002 Tacoma Truck Does Not Reverse

Hello everyone,

I have a 2002 Toyota Tacoma SR5 V6 4x4 Automatic. It runs fine, but it just does not run reverse now. Do you have any idea what's wrong with it?

As far as I know, reverse on this tranny is strictly manual, meaning no solenoids are involved. Maybe someone else can confirm this. Hate to say it but sounds like the reverse clutch is out of it.

Check the shifter and linkage. It could be as simple as the retainer failed and the linkage rod has fallen off.

It's an automatic. So do you mean the tranny is out?

How can I check it? Can you explain more detail for me?

Get under it with the engine off,but key on and have someone sit in it and shift into all the gears. Look for a shift linkage that is not moving a lever on the trans all the way into position. Also look for any damage to the shifter or linkage. There should be a retainer clip holding the linkage rod to the lever on the trans, be sure that they are still there and hold the rod on.
